Where Have I Been?

Well, golly gee. Yet another fantastic idea somebody came up with! Why haven't I seen this? Apparently I have been living under some rock. A big rock. Sometimes I eat while I'm at the computer. I know. Naughty. And sometimes I even spill some crackers. And. Don't pass out. But I don't exactly dust off my keyboard like I should!

Maybe you all have seen this before but clearly I haven't and I think it is sweet. You don't even need batteries! I could really use this. And at only $4.99. What a steal!

You can find this at Cleaning Tools.

Missing my Little Kens...

My little sis (Tenille) just had a baby in December. This is her third child! Schnikey! Anyhow, my mom was flying down to see them for a couple of weeks and they live in Georgia. The last time my parents went down without Kenslee she flipped out! Well, this time my mom called to see if she could take Kenslee with her. We explained to Kenslee that it would be a while and she wouldn't be able to come home until Nana and Papa were coming home. She was super excited and thought about it for a while and wanted to go. When I got home from work last night she had everything packed in Target bags. Way to go honey--Target bags! Although I told her that was a great choice for a "suitcase" we needed to put the clothes into a travel bag. So we did. My parents came to pick her up and she couldn't leave fast enough. Before I knew it, she was in the car waving to me with the biggest smile on her face. I went out there and started attacking her with kisses and more kisses. And then a little more. We agreed that she would have Papa help her take some pictures so that when we get back we could scrapbook them.

I called my mom's cell phone today and they had just arrived in the good old South. Home of the Bulldogs. Athens, Georgia. Kenslee was eating lunch and was having a great time with her cousins. Within seconds, she had asked to speak with her little sister. I thought that was cute. Then I heard Kaylan, "Kens-a-lee, I miss you." Boy did the tears start. I thought was the one of the sweetest things ever. I'm so glad that even though they have their moments, that they still love and miss each other. They are the best of friends and as a mother there is nothing more that I could ask for.

Well, one day almost down. 11 more to go. Geez. This might be the longest 11 days of my life!

Till We Meet Again...

Those are the last words I remember President Hinckley saying. He seemed to always close his talks with this. He will be greatly missed but I am so happy for him and his sweet wife to be together again. What a lovely gift to have him home again.

The dedication of the temple in Ghana. This is very special to us since this is where Tony served his mission.

Super Bowl Snacks

This looks pretty tasty for a Super Bowl treat. Here is the recipe below. Looks pretty darn simple.

  • 1/2 cup prepared or homemade tomato salsa
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
Cooking Instructions
  1. In a small bowl with a beater or fork mix salsa, cream cheese, and ground red pepper to combine.
Substitution(s)

The classic red salsa is generally used for this recipe, but your favorite type can be substituted.

This dip can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator up to 4 days.

Being 30 is not that bad

Update: So I went to Walmart's customer service and asked if there was something for a Melissa Rydman. They gave me an envelope and told me Happy Birthday. I opened the card as it blasted out singing BRICK HOUSE. I was a little embarrassed. There was a gift card and with it were instructions to find myself a gift and then hurry on over to TARGET!!!!! After I purchased myself a memory card for my video camera I scurried myself on over to Target. I got to the customer service desk there and the lady handed me an envelope with a card in it. Inside it was a gift card for Target this time telling me to do the same thing but after I was done to meet Tony and the girls for lunch at Panda Express. After I daydreamed and made a few purchases at Target I went on over to Panda to meet Tony and the girls. We had a great lunch and it was fun to hang out for my birthday. Kenslee gave me another card and inside that was a gift card for Kohl's. Tony had written that he needed to clean the house for my last surprise and to take my time shopping there. I couldn't argue with that! When I got home from my busy shopping day I thanked Tony and told him that this was the best day ever and planted a big old kiss right on him! At 6:00 I heard a knock at the door. To my surprise a bunch of friends from the neighborhood were there! We hung out and talked and then decided to go get some food. We had some good laughs. After we ate everybody went home. Now it is 10:00 at night and my day is just about over. It's been a busy day but a fun one and one that I won't forget for a very, very long time.

While I was out on my shopping scavenger hunt I had a lot of time to ponder the question that was most asked to me today--"So how does it feel to be 30?" Sitting here at the computer I am somewhat teary eyed. Not because I'm the big 3-0 but because I have realized that turning 30 is one of the most touching things that has happened to me. Do I have a huge house? No. Do I have a ton of money? No. Do we have nice expensive cars. Most definately not! But what I do have is a decent home that has a lot of love shared within it. I have the best husband in the world and no money can buy that. And as far as the cars go, they give us a laugh because they are kinda sad looking. Especially Tony's. But that's ok. Turning 30 has really been a humbling experience for me. It has made me realize that I have the most amazing friends a girl could ever wish for. My phone was ringing constantly today because of all the calls wishing me a happy birthday. I had quite the group show up to my house for a "girls only" party. Right now I am feeling very blessed and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. There is nothing more that I could have wished for on my birthday. I owe it to my husband for doing a great job in planning all of this. He really came through.

I love you "Sticker."

The Big 3-0!!

Yeap. That's right folks. I am officially 30 years old today. I can't believe it. When I was younger I remember thinking, "Gol, when I'm 30 I'm going to have this and this and this and go here and here and there. " Whatever that means! I don't know why 30 is such a milestone. I guess because I can't say that I'm in my twenties anymore. I am very happy though. I can't complain. I have a wonderful husband who loves me and I have two absolutely beautiful children who, may not be perfect all of the time, but love me for the mom that I am. I thank my Heavenly Father everyday for all that I have. I am very lucky.
Well, today when I woke up there was a special envelope sitting patiently for me on the closet door. On it, written with blue crayon in Tony's handwriting, was the following:
Wake up Sticker (a nickname we have been calling each other for years. I'll have to explain sometime) it's your birthday. Happy Birthday. Open ASAP to begin your adventure. I hope you have a great day. Inside the envelope was a piece of paper that had a cake printed on it. On the paper he had written: Happy Birthday! Let's get this party started. Go to the customer service at Walmart and pick up item #1.
*Leave the kids. This is your day.
So with that being said. I've got an adventure ahead of me today! And I'm off....................

{Drum Roll} The Basement!

Ok, Ok. People have been bugging me to get some pics of the basement up so here you go. Clearly there is much decorating that needs to be done but at least we have a little bit more space to play in! It's been so, so nice. Good job Tony! He did this all by himself. I did help a little. I did all the texture on the walls. Tony didn't trust me but when he was at work I put my grubby clothes on and grabbed the bucket of drywall mud and my "tools" and went to work! Tony was pleasantly surprised when he got home. You can't see the texture on the walls from the photos but they do look pretty cool. I saw it done on TV one time and thought, "I could do that."

The upstairs straight ahead and to the left.

Computer "slot." We want to build shelves around there too to put games and stuff.

Where all the TV watching is done.

Back View and where the future ping pong table will sit.

Playroom

Entrance to playroom. I want to put "Once Upon a Time" above the arch in vinyl lettering.

Underneath the stairs.

Ice Fishing. Brrrrrrrrrrrr

I know. I know. You're thinking: "Hmm. She had just said in a recent post that she is ready for summer because it's so cold. What's her deal?" Yeah. I'm crazy. For whatever reason, I like to go ice fishing. I went with Tony and his brother Cory yesterday up to Jordanelle. And it was pretty cold. The sun came out for a bit but then some clouds quickly came over and hug it. I didn't catch anything but I did make a really cute snow angel! Tony caught five or six fish and his brother caught about four I think. Oh well. Sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you! Better luck next time. I think we'll go in the Spring when it's not soooo cold.

Up For a Movie?

The Sundance Film Festival is here again. I try to go every year. It's fun to go up to Park City and "star gaze." I also like to see some of the films. Some are good and some are not so good but it's such a fun atmosphere. When I was in college my friend and I took a class called "The Sundance Film Festival Workshop" It was one of those classes in college that you couldn't believe would actually be a class and why I took it? I thought it would be an easy "A" Well, I got a B. We were required to watch 13 movies and write a 3-5 page essay on each movie. Wow. That's a lot of writing and movie watching! It was a ton of fun though. We went up to Park City for 3 days, met a lot of stars, and got invited to a fancy party. I had never been to a party before where they actually crossed your name off! All in all, it was a great experience and I have had an appreciation for film ever since. If you don't think you can get in because you didn't buy tickets, you still have a chance. We didn't buy any of our tickets until two hours before. Just get to the venue 2 hours before and get a "wait" ticket. Come back 1/2 hour before the show starts and if there's room (there almost always is) you get in. We even got into many premiere's this way.

So watcha waiting for? Get up there!

So Ready For Summer

Although snow is very pretty and we need it to get out of the drought, I am sooo ready for summer to be here. It is so cold. This inversion muck makes it soooo much colder. Maybe if I keep posting cute summer things it will come faster! Hmmm. Well, at least I can dream.

Found these on Denim Daisies.

Snow

I took this picture while we were at my parents house. It had just snowed a ton the night before on Christmas Eve. We've had a lot of snow this year. We need it but it's just a little too cold for me.

Don't Grow Up Too Fast...

My goodness how time flies. It seems like just yesterday I was bringing my little Kenslee home from the hospital. She has such a fun little personality and we are the best of friends. I love her so much. Today her and I feel asleep in her bed while hanging out. It was so fun to just be there with her. It's times like these that I just want to freeze forever.

My Kind of Necklace

I saw this cute necklace on Etsy and just love it. It's simple, it's chic, and I love the two colors along with the geometric shapes. Definately my kinda thing.

Tiny Dancers

Tony and I were downstairs still getting things put in their place in the basement and we heard the girls rustling around upstairs. I told Tony that I would be right back and that I was going to check on them. As I took my last step up the stairs this is what I saw and this is what I heard: "Ta Da!" and they proceeded to do twirls around the entry way. Interesting outfits I might add.

Note: Kaylan is very stylish as she sports white socks and Kenslee's black shoes (on the wrong feet). Kenslee is looking especially stylish and looks as if she's dressed ready for Hollywood. Who needs pants these days when you can wear a see-through tutu?
