Brownies

Anybody who knows me knows that I am a complete sucker for brownies. Nothing in the world makes me more happy! Mmmm. Mmmmm. Mmmmmm! And these ones are somewhat healthy...or so they say.

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup butter
8 ounces semisweet chocolate
1 cup sugar
1 cup light brown sugar
4 eggs, at room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup Purple Puree
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

1. Heat the oven to 350°. Lightly butter a 9- by 9-inch cake pan and dust it with flour. Melt the butter and chocolate in the microwave at half power, then whisk until smooth.
2. Combine the sugars in a large mixing bowl. Add the eggs. Using a hand mixer, beat the ingredients on medium-high until well blended. Add the vanilla extract, the cooled chocolate, and the Purple Puree; mix on medium just until evenly blended.
3. Sift the flour and salt into a medium-size bowl, then stir them into the chocolate mixture until no streaks of flour remain. Stir in the nuts. Scrape the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spoon.
4. Bake the brownies in the center of the oven until they rise and the top has a thin, brittle crust, about 30 to 35 minutes. Transfer the pan to a wire rack to let the brownies cool. Makes 16 brownies.

March Madness

How cute is this March Madness cupcake? Looks super easy too! I'll have to try it. You can too if you follow these instructions.

RECIPE INGREDIENTS:

Mini white cupcakes (this one is 1 inch tall)
White frosting
Orange decorators' gel
Sugar cookies (this one is 3 inches in diameter)
Mini basketball chocolates (available at candy stores or online at chocolateexpressions.com

1. For each basket, trim the cupcake flush with the wrapper's edges, if needed. Frost the cupcake and pipe a ring of decorators' gel around the edge.

2. For the backboard, frost half of a cookie, then add decorators' gel details. Keeping the cookie flat, dab frosting where the basket will go and gently press the cupcake in place.

3. Use another dab of frosting to secure a chocolate basketball. Let the treats set for at least a half hour before standing them up.

Guess Who Needs Braces?!

Yeap. That would be yours truly. I've been having some jaw pain and went to the dentist today. Apparently I have what is called a crossbite. My jaw does not align properly with my upper teeth and my jaw is shifting over when I bite down. How fun for me! This is what happens when you turn 30 I guess!
This picture is exactly what I think I'm going to look like. Hello brace face!

Aaaahhh!

Ok, I'm going to have to dig my sewing machine out and try to make this. I love it! I've mentioned her before. This woman has the cutest stuff and she has free patterns! She even designed her own fabric line. Wow!

Antelope Island

On Saturday we decided to take a drive to Antelope Island. I have been wanting to do this for some time now. We packed a little lunch and off we were. We drove through the gate and it was great. Until the smell hit us. Wowser! That's one heck of a STINK! YUCK! Luckily it didn't last long. We found a table to sit and eat our lunch. The girls were anxious to get out of the car. It didn't take long for them to want to get back in. It was a bit chilly. We drove and drove. And drove. And then drove some more. That place is huge! We hadn't been in the car 10 minutes and Kenslee was asking when we were going home. She thought this was going to be like the zoo. Not sure where she got that from! Woops. I would like to go back in the Spring. That's when the buffalo babies will be born. I think I might have to bike around out there. It's a biker's dream.

A little bored?

Tim Tams?

Sunday afternoon we took a lovely ride to Logan. My younger sister (Tati) and hubby (Matt) and my little brother Spencer live up there. The girls have been asking and asking and crying as to when we could go visit them. So we decided to jaunt up there after church. Tati and Matt cooked a great chicken dinner in the crockpot. YUMMY! It was delish! They have quite the little quaint place. It was a tight fit but fun nonetheless.
After dinner we were in for a treat. I had never heard of these tasty snick snacks called Tim Tams. Apparently they are really popular in China where Matt served his mission. We did the short version of the "Tim Tam Slam." This is what you do:

1. Bite off the ends of the wafer.
2. Put some hot chocolate in a cup.
3. Use your wafer as a straw and suck up the hot chocolate before your wafer melts.
4. You cannot use hands.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking, "Hello! This sounds so easy. Duh." Well, it sounds a lot easier than it is. I am pretty proud of myself though. I did it on my first try. Yeah, that's right. I'm a fan of chocolate-- but wow, that is one chocolaty treat. Now, if you want to do the "Tim Tam Slam" you have to do the whole box. I think I might puke if I did that. But, go ahead. I dare ya!

Bows

My sister in law, Emily, is pregnant with her third child and it's a girl! She has two boys and has been wanting a little girl. Yay! I thought it would be fun to make some hair bows and barrettes for the new little one. I have some headbands that you can interchange the bows. I can't wait to see how she looks in these!

Painting

So, I'm struggling a little with what decorations to put in the playroom. As I was at one of my favorite craft stores, Hobby Lobby, I was looking in the paint section and thought that it might be a fun idea to have the girls make their own. So I bought some canvas and some paint and sent them on their way! They had a great time. They turned out pretty good. I think I need to go back and get some more. I may want to try one!

Goin' Shopping

It's always a circus when we go to the store. The girls love to dress up and look at everything that is girley. What should be a 15 minute trip to the store usually turns into 45 minutes because of the parading around.
These were taken with my phone so they're not the best quality.
