Reusable Bag Makeover

One of my resolutions this year is to try and use my reusable bags.  I've bought a few so now I just need to try, try, TRY to remember that they are in the car and take them in WITH me INTO the store.  I bought a couple of bags at good old Walmart but man are they the ugliest things!  So I decided to make them cute and I covered up their logo.  Sorry Wallyworld.

Love Notes and Pictures

The other day Tony and I walked into our room and this is what was greeting us:

This is a picture of Tony that Kaylan drew

And, yeap, this is me.

I love it when the girls do little things like this.

It makes my day.

And, no, I'm not taking them down anytime soon. :)

Felt Headband

I love these headbands that I'm seeing everywhere at boutiques but I don't like the price. So...I decided to venture out and make my own and I LOVE how it turned out!

Materials Needed:
  • One large piece of felt in a color that you like
  • Hot glue gun
  • Ribbon
  • Plastic Headband
  • Scissors
  • Jewel or other item to "bling" your flower
  • Flower pattern. I just made my own.

An Announcement.............

We have a new addition to our family!  It's a boy and his name is BuSTeR! He's a pure bred yellow lab and he is only 17 weeks old.  He is the most adorable puppy E.V.E.R.!  And he's totally potty trained, which I am loving.  Buster was an early birthday present to me from Tony.

And a big surprise.  I have to admit--I was a little nervous having a puppy because of the potty training and chewing things but he's been pretty good.  I can't complain.  The kids love him-especially Owen.  He will lay on Buster, pull his ears, his tail, and tease him with toys.  It's pretty cute to watch.

He's a total SNUGGLER which I also love.  He has to be right by my side.  As you can tell he's right under the stool I'm sitting on while I'm at the computer.

Chillerdawgs

We had some really close friends come into town last weekend. We call them "Chillerdawgs" and they call us Chillerdawgs. Why? I have no clue. But I do know that they are some of the neatest, funnest, most genuine people you would ever meet in your whole life. Tony and Matt both served their missions at the same time in Ghana, West Africa.
It sucks that they live in North Carolina!

We spent Saturday with them and went sledding with their family. Our girls had a lot of fun and wished that their new best friends lived here in Utah. After we went sledding we headed on over to her Aunt Sheila's house. Yes, that would be the infamous Sheila of Pedaling Fast and Trying to Keep Up. What a fun group her and her family are as well. I think I may have talked her ear off a little too much! And holy freaking smokes what a house she has there. YIKES! I was informed many times from my girls that we needed to move there. And as soon as we walked in the house Kenslee said, "Wow Mom. This house doesn't even compare to ours!" Yeah, I know. It's beautiful.

Matt and Big Daddy made the most DELISH Clam Chowder evah! I seriously have never had clam chowder like that in my life. Tony and I can't stop talking about it. And honestly, have you ever seen a bigger ladle in your life? It's almost the size of Matt's head!

We had a great time. When it was time to say our goodbyes I didn't even cry! I am such a baby whenever we have to say bye to the Chillerdawgs. We'll be in N.C. sometime! Hopefully soon.

Here is a pic of Sheila, Brandi, Brandi's Mom Sandi, and me.

**I'm so embarrassed. I look horrible! But we had just been sledding all day. At least that's my excuse. ;)

Christmas....I Know, I Know.

Yeah, I know it's a little late but better late than never right? Last year our activities committee for our church chose to do a "Bethlehem" theme for our ward Christmas party. It was a lot of fun. Here's our little family in Bethlehem that night.

Don't pay attention to the yucky nose!

Something I Found

I came across this pic of me and my cute cousin giving Beita a kiss. Man, I miss that lovely lady.

A Birthday, A Wedding, A Funeral, and Braces!

It's been a crazy, emotional ride this past month. Wowza. It's been such a whirlwind. Kaylan celebrated her 4th birthday on December 14th. She had a birthday party with her cute little friends from the neighborhood. She had such a blast! I can't believe my little baby girl is 4 years old. Wow time flies.

My cute sister, Tenille, and her family flew in from Delaware to share the holidays with us. It's always fun to see them. Unfortunately we only get to see them once a year, if that.
The following day my little brother (the last of us 5 kids) was married on December 18th in the beautiful Draper temple. It was so neat to see him and his beautiful bride, Collette.

On the evening of the 19th I was making some dinner. My cell phone rang and I saw that it was my mom calling. I immediately got a sick feeling in my stomach. It was my sister Tenille calling to let me know that Beita was in a coma and she was in her last hours. I hung up the phone and ran to put my shoes on. I started to cry. I was in a panic mode. The girls were worried and wanted to come and say goodbye to Beita as well. Owen had just gone down for the night so Tony stayed home with him. We got into the car and raced down to see her. It seemed like it took forever. As we entered her apartment I was greeted by family. I walked into my grandma's room and there she laid. She looked horrible. It looked nothing like my grandma. She was doing the death rattle breathing and I knew it was coming. She could not speak but she could still hear you. We all took turns talking to her and saying our last words. She would move her eyes under her lids when you spoke and it seemed like she would try to talk but couldn't get it out. It was so hard to see her like this. We all sat around the bed and sang church hymns to her--in English as well as in Spanish. My brother and uncle gave her a beautiful blessing releasing her from this life and going into the next. It was a very spiritual experience and very peaceful as well as calming.
The girls and I ended up leaving around midnight. I slept with my phone in my hands. I was woken up to a text message from my aunt saying that it was time. I raced out of bed and into the car. I got there just 1/2 hour after her passing away. I cried and cried. I was sad but I was also happy that she was reunited with the love of her life and just picturing him standing there with his arms wide open ready to greet her just made me so happy.
We had a small funeral for her here in Salt Lake the following Tuesday. It was a long day. There was another funeral for her in Los Angeles on December 26th. I was unable to attend that. I really wanted to go and see my other family members in California but that's a whole other story that I won't even go into. Unfortunately when a death occurs in a family it brings out the not-so-pretty traits of others and it brings bickering and selfishness. Oh well. Life goes on for the rest of us and I just need to get over it.

Whew! After all that I finally got some really good news! It was time to get my braces off. HALLELUJAH! I never thought the day would come. It feels oh, so good. I do have to wear a retainer but I'd much rather have that than braces again.

All I know now is that 2009 is thankfully over and that 2010 is gonna be my year!
